Scree

2024

Scree is a collection of sculptural furniture pieces born from Scotland’s terrain—an homage to the landscapes and the memories embedded within them. Inspired by childhood journeys through the highlands, this work translates the language of mountain scree into functional, tactile forms that invite both contemplation and rest.

Each piece is carved to mimic the natural erosion and fragmentation of stone, yet polished to an uncanny reflectivity—an intentional contradiction that mirrors the duality of physical space and memory: both raw and

idealised, rooted and surreal. The hybrid surfaces, forged from natural materials and resin, the mirrored surface is hand-finished to a mirrored sheen, echo the otherworldly light found in remote highland hours, particularly the blue hour—a time when memory and dream blur.

In Scree, rocks morph into furniture—seats, portals, monuments—offering moments of stillness and solitude. They serve not only as physical shelters, but also as emotional waypoints, guiding us through the

intangible landscapes of memory. As light bends across the objects, viewers are drawn into their contours, becoming part of the narrative. These objects are not simply to be viewed—they are to be inhabited, used, and experienced.

At once ancient and futuristic, Scree reimagines the legacy of land through form. It is a quiet, powerful exploration of how we carry the past in our bodies and surroundings—a sensory archive shaped by geology, culture, and time.

“Memory, like stone, is shaped by pressure and time. In Scree, I return to the rocks that raised me.”
